John-Hugh Seiradakis

    J.H. Seiradakis is professor of Astronomy at the University of Thessaloniki (AUTh). B.Sc. in Physics (University of Athens, 1971), M.Sc. in Radio Astronomy (Victoria University of Manchester, UK, 1973), Ph.D. in Radio Astronomy (Victoria University of Manchester, UK, 1975). He worked as postdoc, at the Max-Planck-Institute für Radioastronomie, Bonn, Germany, at the Hamburger Universität, Germany and at the University of California, San Diego, U.S.A.

    His scientific work is centered on neutron stars through their radio emission at high frequencies, the Galactic Centre, nearby radiogalaxies and variable stars. He has served as Secretary or President for the Hellenic Astronomical Society (1994 - 2002). He is currently the Chairman of the Greek National Committee for Astronomy and has represented Greece in several international committees. He is member of the International Astronomical Union and the European Astronomical Society. He is teaching at AUTh several courses related to Astronomy and Astrophysics at the Departments of Physics, Mathematics and Primary Education.
